Best Ideas For Your Bathroom

BRAVE BLACK

An Alexander McQueen skull pillow has been the catalyst for this daring en suite bathroom in Chicago's trendy Wicker Park area. "I wanted drama!" Says designer SuzAnn Kletzien, who notes that putting a modern, jewelry-inspired chandelier on a claw-foot tub "surely satisfied that need."

TRELLIS ACCENTS

Chinoiserie matches orangery in the trellis-accented powder area, together with millwork by Philippe Le Manach of all Accents of France. Farrow & Ball paints in Dix Blue and treillage in Plummett, either the walls. The lantern above is from Charles Edwards.

AGATE WALLS

A New England home's powder area kept its classic corner sink but got a new look with Robert Crowder & Co. marbleized wallpaper and a classic Egon Hillebrand mirror. The wainscoting was repainted in Farrow & Ball's Plummet.

TROPICAL REEF

Background by Fornasetti for Cole & Son adds a playful note to a Bahamian toilet.

GRANDFATHER CLOCK

Fill a narrow stretch of wall mounted with an heirloom-worthy, grandfather-style clock. You'll learn you're running in style.

FEMININE GLAMOUR

"It is critical to create your bathroom lovely -- it sets the tone for the daily life," says Florida designer Cheryl Kees Clendenon. With this notion as her driving force, she laid out to create a space that was "feminine, youthful, and happy" for a teen girl's en suite bathroom.

MODERN ZEN

"The threat of doing a contemporary bathroom is that it may feel cold," says Pamela Butz, who remodeled this house near Boston with spouse Jeffrey Klug. Their answer was a layout that errs on the side of simplicity, but with beautiful, natural materials that "speak for themselves."

SOFT SIMPLICITY

In a slick Hamptons house designed by Amy Lau, the master bathroom has a Wetstyle tub with a Dornbracht faucet.

MOROCCAN MOTIF

A powder room in a worldly Los Angeles home features Ann Sacks's Maghreb 4 tiles onto the wall. Arturo sconces from Paul Ferrante. Forbidden City mirror by Bunny Williams Home. Mehraab sink for Stephanie Odegard with THG's Versailles fittings by Viya.
